According to Rosstat, the growth of chemical production was 6.3% in 2015 compared to 2014 year – the best result of the industry over the past five years and the best result among the branches of the manufacturing industry sector. At the same time a consistently high growth rate was maintained in the industry throughout the year: in the first quarter growth of chemical production amounted to 6.7% YoY in the second quarter – 5.9% in the third quarter – 6.5% in the fourth quarter – 5.4%.
In 2015, several records were set in the industry: up to a maximum of historical significance has increased the production of mineral fertilizers, PVC and propylene polymers.
According to experts RIA Ranking, the successful outcome of the industry can be attributed to several factors. First, the devaluation has increased the supply to foreign markets and at the same time to press the competitive imported products in the domestic market. The most import substitution occurred on the line of pharmaceutical products, household chemicals and plastics. Secondly, in 2013-2014 in Russia it was put into operation several new plants, which began to emerge at full capacity in 2015. To the greatest extent it relates to polymer producers, whose production this year, growing faster than the production of other chemical products. In addition, in 2015, it was put into operation new facilities for the production of mineral fertilizers, which increased the production of these products to a record level, despite the accident at the mine “Uralkali”, which occurred in late 2014.
Third, a considerable influence on the result of the industry has a low base factor. In 2014, production growth in the sector was only 0.1% due to an accident at the plant “Stavrolen” in the Stavropol region. In 2015, this activity of the company has been fully restored, resulting in dramatically increased production of ethylene and polyethylene.
Along with the good production results of the chemical industry has demonstrated an excellent financial result. A net profit in the industry by the end of 2015 amounted to 369.8 billion rubles. That is 23 times more than in 2014.
According to experts RIA Ranking, in 2016 in the chemical industry will remain positive dynamics, but the growth rate is likely to be lower than in 2015. This is partly due to a decrease in the effect of the devaluation of the ruble, in part – a high base factor, as the majority of new businesses launched in 2013-2014, almost reached the design capacity.
In addition, at the beginning of 2016 there was an accident on the “Angarsk polymer plant”, which resulted in the supply of raw materials the company stopped “Sayanskkhimplast”, which is one of the largest PVC producers in the country. While not clear how long this will stop, so the degree of influence of this factor in the industry’s financial results for 2016 are now difficult to assess.
Positive factors for the industry may be the implementation of new investment projects, such as plant “Ammonium” in the Republic of Tatarstan, “Ammonia-4” in Veliky Novgorod, “Plant fertilizer blends” in the Tyumen region, and others. However, the greatest effect of the implementation of these projects will be received , most likely, not in 2016 and 2017 year.
As evidenced by recent data of Rosstat, in January-February 2016 growth of chemical production was 2.7%. Against the background of the results of the industry as a whole, this figure can be considered good. Overall, the year production growth in the sector could be around 3%.
