According to the results of the ten months of the year, imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (PVC-S) to Ukraine decreased by 36% compared with the same period in 2017 and amounted to about 57.1 thousand tons. The main reason is the growth in own production, according to a review by DataScope.
Last month, imports of PVC-S to the Ukrainian market decreased to 3.9 thousand tons against 4.1 thousand tons in September, the main decrease was attributable to resin from the United States. In general, in January-October of this year, the total volume of imports of the suspension reached 57.1 thousand tons against 89 thousand tons a year earlier. Stable work of Karpatneftekhim after many years of inactivity allowed to reduce the dependence of the Ukrainian market on imports.
The structure of imports of polyvinyl chloride to Ukraine for the period under review is as follows.Last month, suspension PVC imports from the United States decreased to 1 thousand tons against 1.6 thousand tons in September. Thus, over the ten months of the year, imports of North American resin from the United States amounted to 34 thousand tons against 44.6 thousand tons a year earlier. The peak of deliveries fell in February – March.
In October, supplies of European polyvinyl chloride to the Ukrainian market amounted to about 2.9 thousand tons against 2.4 thousand tons a month earlier. In general, for the considered imports of European PVC to Ukraine amounted to about 21.8 thousand tons against 29.4 thousand tons a year earlier.
As previously reported, since November 5, Karpatneftekhim stopped the production of PVC for scheduled preventive maintenance. Downtime will be quite long and will last approximately until December 9th. The total annual production capacity is 300 thousand tons.
