According to the results of ten months of the year, the total volume of imports of polyethylene (PE) to the Ukrainian market decreased by 2% compared to the same period in 2017 and amounted to 200.2 thousand tons. At the same time, a decrease in imports was recorded only in the segment of low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), according to a report from Market Report.

Last month, external PE supplies to Ukraine rose to 21.1 against 16.5 thousand tons in September, the main increase in purchases fell on the HDPE. In general, in January-October 2018, the total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached 200.2 thousand tons against 204.5 thousand tons a year earlier. The volume of imports of PND and EVA has decreased, while the demand for other ethylene polymers has significantly increased.

The structure of supplies by types of PE for the period under review is as follows.

Last month, an increase in imports of low-density polyethylene was recorded to 8.2 thousand tons against 4.9 thousand tons in September, the increase in supplies accounted for the entire range of polyethylene. In general, according to the results of ten months of the year, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 63.1 thousand tons against 81.5 thousand tons a year earlier. The largest reduction in imports (about -56%) was due to HDPE film, due to the resumption of its own production.

The October indicator of imports of high-density polyethylene (LDPE) rose to 5.6 thousand tons against 4.5 thousand tons a month earlier, local companies increased their purchases of LDPE in Russia. During the period under review, the total volume of imports of LDPE reached a level of 62.6 thousand tons, which is 13% more than in 2017.

Last month, the external supply of linear polyethylene (LDL) amounted to 6.2 thousand tons against 5.8 thousand tons in September; local producers of film products increased the volume of purchases. In general, in January-October of this year, the total import of LDL rose to 61.6 thousand tons against 54.3 thousand tons a year earlier. The main increase in imports was provided by local producers of film products.

Imports of other types of PE, including EVA, for the period under review amounted to 12.7 thousand tons against 13.2 thousand tons a year earlier.
