In January-November this year, the total volume of imports of polyethylene to the Ukrainian market declined by 5% compared to the same period in 2016 and amounted to 225.7 thousand tons. Significantly decreased external purchases of low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), according to the DataScope.

Last month, external deliveries of polyethylene to Ukraine increased to 21,1 thousand tons against 19,1 thousand tons in October, local companies increased volumes of purchases of linear polyethylene (LLDPE) and HDPE. In general, in January-November total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached 225.7 thousand tons against 238.7 thousand tons in the same period in 2016, external purchases of HDPE decreased, while demand for other ethylene polymers increased.

The structure of supplies by types of polyethylene over the period under review is as follows.

Last month, an increase in the import of low-pressure polyethylene into the Ukrainian market was recorded, some local companies actively increased external supplies of film polyethylene. The total import figure was about 7.9 thousand tons against 6.9 thousand tons in October. In general, following the results of eleven months of this year, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 89.4 thousand tons against 112.9 thousand tons a year earlier. The greatest reduction in imports was in the film HDPE, which is due to the resumption of its own production.

November index of imports of high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE) actually remained at the level of October and amounted to about 6 thousand tons. During the period under review, the total volume of imports of LDPE exceeded 61.4 thousand tonnes, which is 2% more than in 2016.

Last month, the external deliveries of linear polyethylene amounted to about 6.3 thousand tons against 4.9 thousand tons in October, the demand for polyethylene from the side of stretch film producers increased significantly. In general, in January-November imports of LDL increased to 60.6 thousand tons against 53.4 thousand tons a year earlier. The main increase in imports was provided by local producers of film products.

Import of other types of polyethylene, including ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), for the period under review amounted to about 14.2 thousand tons against 12.1 thousand tons a year earlier
