Company Styrindo Mono Indonesia (SMI), “daughter” one of the largest Indonesian petrochemical producers Chandra Asri Petrochemical and only styrene producer in the country, plans to close the plant №2 for the production of styrene monomer in the city of Merak (Merak) for repairs in November this year, according to ICIS, citing sources in the company.

It is expected that the renovation work at the plant will take one week.

The company stopped the plant in March 2016 for about a week due to technical problems.

The company also has another plant for the production of styrene on the same site with capacity of 100 thousand. Tons a year, but she stopped him at the end of December 2014 due to weak demand for styrene in Asia. Currently, the plant still does not work, and SMI is not voiced plans to resume production at the plant.

Styrindo Mono Indonesia is the only styrene producer in Indonesia.
