Yesterday, at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Kiev city council on environmental policy, deputies supported the draft appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to resolve the problematic issue of waste disposal in inappropriate places.

According to the deputies of the Kyiv City Council, the uncontrolled and mostly unpunished dumping of garbage in places not intended for this has become a serious problem. Local governments are not able to independently resolve this issue. After all, the mechanisms stipulated by current legislation for bringing to responsibility those responsible for violations in the field of waste management is not effective.

“In particular, the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses does not contain a separate article that provided for responsibility for throwing garbage. The size of fines and the mechanism for imposing them are not effective enough. This needs to be improved at the legislative level. Therefore, we want to urge the Verkhovna Rada to speed up the adoption of Amendments and Additions to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (regarding the disposal of waste in the wrong places). “The document will allow of those who litter the city and the country, ”said the initiator of the draft decision, the deputy of the Kyiv City Council, Maxim Borozenets. The draft decision should be considered at the plenary session of the Kyiv City Council.
