In the first nine months of this year, the total volume of polypropylene (PP) imports to the Ukrainian market amounted to about 97.7 thousand tons, which is 9% more than in 2017. Demand for all types of polymers of propylene increased, according to a DataScope survey.

In September, the volume of imports of polypropylene to Ukraine decreased to 11 thousand tons compared to 12.8 thousand tons a month earlier, the main decline in deliveries fell on propylene homopolymer (PP-homo). In general, in January-September, the total volume of imports of propylene polymers reached a level of 97.7 thousand tons against 89.4 thousand tons a year earlier. The demand for all types of polymers of propylene increased, with the largest increase being in the stat-copolymer of propylene (PP-random).

The structure of supplies by type of polypropylene for the period under review is as follows.

In September, the external supply of propylene homopolymers to the Ukrainian market decreased to 8.5 thousand tons against 10.5 thousand tons a month earlier, local companies reduced the volume of purchases of PP-homo raffia varieties. For nine months, the total supply of PP-homo reached 73.9 thousand tons against 68 thousand tons a year earlier.

Last month, the indicator of external deliveries of propylene block copolymers (PP-block) was 1.1 thousand tons against 1 thousand tons in August. On the part of local companies, the demand for propylene cast copolymers has increased. During the period under review, about 9.8 thousand tons of propylene block copolymers were imported, whereas a year earlier this figure was about 9.7 thousand tons.

In September, imports of stat-copolymers of propylene did not exceed the level of 1.2 thousand tons against 1.1 thousand tons a month earlier, the demand for PP from the manufacturers of molded products increased. According to the results of January – September of the current year, the total volume of imports of PP-rand reached the level of 12.4 thousand tons, whereas a year earlier this figure was about 10.1 thousand tons.

The total supply of other propylene copolymers for the period under review amounted to about 1.7 thousand tons.
