Polypropylene in the Russian market in November has risen in price, contrary to the experience of the past. The average price increase was about 3,000 rubles. per ton, depending on the supplier, according to the ICIS-MRC Price Review.
In November, under the pressure of the seasonal factor in previous years, the Russian market saw a decline in the prices of polypropylene. The demand for polymer was reduced, while the supply of material on the market increased after the end of the period of preventive stops of key industries. In the current year, the situation on the market has changed, lower prices in the first half of the month gave way to growth in the second half of November.
Demand for polypropylene in the first half of November declined, and this factor began to put pressure on prices. Proposals for the supply of the Central Asian homopolymer propylene (PP-homo) varieties of raffia reached a level of 84,000 rubles. per ton, including VAT, FCA, the Russian equivalent was on average sold at 1,000 rubles. per ton is more expensive.
In the second half of November, the largest supplier of polypropylene – SIBUR announced an increase in prices for PP-homo by 3,000 rubles. per ton. Other suppliers reacted with restraint to such a tangible price increase, raising prices by an average of 1,000 rubles. for a ton before the end of the month.
The market for copolymers of propylene was more complicated. During the month, there was a serious lack of supply of a propylene extrusion block copolymer (PP block) and a propylene random propylene copolymer (PP-Random). In the latter case, some suppliers reached prices of up to 120,000 rubles. per ton, including VAT, FCA.
In the segments of injection molded PP block and extrusion PP-Random during November the prices were stable, the reduction in demand and sufficient supply of material in the market did not allow prices to rise.
