Fourteen year old girl from Mariupol introduced innovative work on the recycling of plastic waste and ranked second in the world in the Biology Olympiad in the Netherlands. It is reported by the correspondent

Catherine Malkin – a student of grade 9 technical lyceum of Mariupol – just returned from Niderdandov. There, she took second place at the International Biology Olympiad.

In total in the competition was attended by over 200 children from around the world. But this project is more than most of Ukrainian judges and the audience interested.

“We’ve made a discovery. We have found the larvae of various beetles, which easily can eat plastic – bottles, bags, plastic. This is our opening and we will it soon be patented. Preparations for an international competition, Katya took more than six months. During this time she held a series of experiments and studied the large number of species of larvae and beetles. The next stage – to realize its project in full production.
