Spot prices of low-density polyethylene (HDPE) were stable in Europe last week against the backdrop of a very calm situation in the market, sources told ICIS market.
Most of quotations was at EUR1 150 per tonne FD NWE (North-Eastern Europe), and some prices were blown brand EUR1 200 per tonne level, and sometimes slightly higher.
“Right now, there is simply no buying activity, no one calls,” – said one trader.
Some market sources believe that the reason for such a lull in the market are processors who buy the material from the manufacturers on a continuous basis, and expect discounts on volumes at the end of the year. At the same time, other sources suggest that a demand in some markets was sluggish.
According to the price review ICIS-MRC, the Russian HDPE market last week continued correction in prices, while price cuts are more affected HDPE film. It is in this segment noted the largest excess supply, and it is possible that in the near future, the market situation will not change. In the segment of injection molding and blow molding of HDPE demand is also low, but the oversupply is not marked. And, as a consequence, the price situation on the market more stable.
