At the Khmelnitsky solid waste landfill, an installation for degassing landfill gas was installed. The total power of the plant is 845 kW. A project useful for the city was introduced in pursuance of the Action Plan for Sustainable Energy Development of Khmelnitsky, developed in cooperation with USAID.
This was reported by the press service of the State Energy Efficiency. The plant allows to produce about 3.7 million kWh of electricity per year, which will be sold to the network according to the “green” tariff.
“From the implementation of this project, Khmelnitsky, without spending a penny from the budget, received a private investment, new jobs, a reduction in the landfill, minimizing fires, improving the environmental situation and significantly reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere,” the ministry commented.
Sweden is interested in Ukrainian projects to create facilities that process waste into electricity. It was also reported that Ukraine is not ready for separate collection of garbage, because at the moment there are no basic things for the introduction of sorting of solid household waste.
