In Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, the world’s first supermarket with a department without plastic was opened.

More than 700 products will be available without plastic packaging in the department, which is opened in the new pilot store of supermarket chain Ekoplaza, including meat, rice, sauces, dairy products, chocolate, cereals, fruits and vegetables.

The environmental group “A Plastic Planet”, which initiated the idea, said that the introduction of the world’s first plastic-free department has become a “benchmark” for a global fight against plastic pollution.

Until the end of this year, Ekoplaza plans to open non-plastic departments in 74 branches across the country. The department will test new packaging biomaterials that can be used for composting, as well as traditional materials, including glass, metal and cardboard.

All products of the department are marked with a special brand Plastic Free Mark, to help customers identify products that are completely free of plastic.

The company A Plastic Planet believes that the introduction of the world’s first plastic-free department is an important moment for the global fight against the pollution of the planet with plastic, and also it is meant to prove that we can live without plastic in food and beverages.
