BP in the near future will vote for the Law “On the Electricity Market of Ukraine.” The important law amends the burning of waste that make it dangerous for the environment and our health. Environmentalists explain to whom it is profitable. And they call on those who are not indifferent to sign a protest petition
On March 22, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety considered at its meeting the bill No. 4493 “On the Electricity Market of Ukraine” and proposed that the parliament adopt it in the second reading and in general. Undoubtedly, the bill is very important and more than timely.
But, unfortunately, in the process of considering amendments to the bill, one unpleasant incident was not avoided. Namely: a number of amendments were adopted that make this bill dangerous for the environment and for our health. And also harmful for the economy of Ukraine.
This is primarily about those amendments, which propose to classify household waste as alternative sources of energy and provide a “green tariff” for electricity produced as a result of using such an “alternative fuel”.
The danger of this approach is that these wastes are not supposed to be sorted before they are “fueled” by the statute.
Accordingly, “plastic”, batteries, accumulators, medicines, mercury lamps and other hazardous wastes of human life will flow into the furnace. And enterprises that burn waste will thus receive a “green tariff” for electricity generated from burning such waste, i.e. We will pay as consumers.
As a result, by destroying some waste, we will get colossal pollution of nature, poisoned airspace, and at the same time we will lose a source of valuable and useful recyclable materials, which is an important raw material for many processing enterprises (cardboard and paper enterprises, glass plants, processing lines for PET and other plastics ).
Moreover, I want to note that in Ukraine there are no enterprises where ecologically safe combustion of solid domestic and other wastes is possible.
Environmental monitoring at the state level does not track, for example, the presence of dioxins (they are highly toxic and can cause problems in reproductive health and development, immune system damage, hormonal disorders and cancers) and furans in air emissions. Measurements of dioxins and furans in Ukraine can be carried out by two institutions in Kiev, and they have no controlling powers.
Undoubtedly, such an approach is beneficial only to business groups, which involves “mastering” huge state funds for the construction and purchase of garbage incineration plants. About that, to process valuable waste – glass, paper, plastic, metals, which are so scarce for Ukrainian processing enterprises – these “businessmen from business” do not even think about.
Environmentalists and environmental organizations of Ukraine have already voiced their concern over the adoption of a draft law for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, the adoption of which will do colossal harm to the already “moaning” nature of the country and directly contradicts the Directives of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe on the management of domestic waste.
On the website of the President of Ukraine a petition has already been posted, the authors of which urge not to allow the adoption of changes in the legislation of the country, causing irreversible environmental damage.
I would like to urge everyone who cares, in what condition we leave our natural wealth to children, to sign this petition.
