At the same time, the National Strategy until 2030 provides for a gradual reduction in the number of garbage dumps.
Near Kramatorsk (Donetsk region) in July 2018 a new landfill of solid domestic waste will be opened. This was stated by the Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing Gennady Zubko, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“Until the end of July, we will see a new polygon near Kramatorsk with a capacity of 250,000 tons per year,” Zubko said. He recalled that garbage can be used for energy production, so modern landfills create an additional resource for the local community. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the National Waste Management Strategy until 2030 provides for a gradual reduction of the number of landfills to 300 – with 5 thousand 470 operating today. At the same time, the government deliberately assess the existing landfills with the subsequent re-equipment of their parts in accordance with modern standards and the closure of the rest. If necessary, construction of new garbage disposal sites is also envisaged.
Earlier it was reported that the European Union plans to finance a number of bioenergy projects in Ukraine.
