The company Americas Styrenics (AmSty), the largest producer of polystyrene (PS) in the US, announced an increase in prices for all brands of PS for January supplies to the US at 2 cents per pound (USD44 per tonne), ICIS reported with reference to the company’s message.
According to the statement, the price increase will come into force on January 1, 2018 and cancels all previously announced price changes.
Earlier it was noted that AmSty in December announced an increase in prices for all PS brands by 6 cents per pound (USD132 per tonne).
In addition, Total Petrochemical also nominated its December PS prices with a similar increase, and Ineos Styrolution informed its customers about the price increase this month at 5 cents per pound (USD110 per tonne).
At the present time, PS prices in the US are in the process of increasing by 5 cents per pound after the announcement of price increases by the three leading producers of material in the country. The increase in quotations was caused by the increased prices of benzene and styrene in November.
The largest polystyrene producers in the US are Americas Styrenics, Group Idesa, Ineos Styrolution, Resirene and Total Petrochemicals USA.
According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC, in the Russian market last week all PS producers did not change the prices of their products.
Americas Styrenics is the largest PS manufacturer in the US. The company has five PS plants in the country with a total capacity of 758 thousand tons per year. INEOS Styrolution, the second largest PS producer in the US, has a total capacity of 740,000 tonnes of substations per year. Total Petrochemicals ranks third in the list of leaders-producers of PS in the US. The company has the world’s largest production facility for the production of PS in Carville (658 thousand tons per year).
