Company Styrindo Mono Indonesia (SMI), “daughter” one of the largest Indonesian petrochemical producers Chandra Asri Petrochemical, and the only producer of styrene in the country, plans to mid-November of this year to close the plant number 2 for the production of styrene monomer in the city of Merak (Merak) in the prevention, ICIS reported a source in the company.
It is expected that the repair work on the enterprise capacity of 250 thous. Tons of styrene per year will continue for approximately four weeks.
Earlier this year the company has already stopped styrene plant in Merak, from 4 to 10 March 2016 because of technical problems.
The company also operates another plant number 1 for the production of styrene on the same site with capacity of 100 thousand. Tons a year, but she stopped him at the end of December 2014 due to weak demand for styrene in Asia. Currently, the plant still does not work, and SMI is not voiced plans to resume production at the plant.

Styrene is the main raw materials for the production of polystyrene (PS).
According to the price review ICIS-MRC, the spot market prices are rising polystyrene Russia in connection with the situation in the styrene market.
