Prices of styrene monomer in Asia rose this week amid limited demand, ICIS reports citing market participants.
On Friday, July 13, the price of styrene rose by USD22.5 per tonne to USD1,422 per tonne, CFR China, compared to the price a week earlier. This is the highest value for the last month.
The last time the prices of styrene were higher than June 14, when they were USD1,482 per ton.
This week there were concerns about a possible supply disruption at one of the plants that supplies the material to China. It was reported that the plant had production problems, because of which the production volumes were reduced.
Earlier it was reported that the buying activity in the markets of benzene and styrene in Europe fell against the background of volatility of crude oil quotations in the upstream market. The buyers were mostly absent from the market. Demand is weakening with the beginning of summer vacation. Supplies of the material on the market are more than sufficient, so changes in oil prices lead to the fact that some in the benzene sector postpone purchases in order to assess the situation.
According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC, in the Russian market the cost of the Nizhnekamsk PS in July for all major market participants remained unchanged. The upper limit of spot prices for individual batches of the casting 525 mark slightly changes in the direction of increase.
