According to the results of the first five months of the year, the total volume of imports of polyethylene (PE) to the Ukrainian market grew by 11% compared with the same indicator of 2018 and amounted to 111.3 thousand tons. The increase in external supplies was mainly attributable to low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE), according to a survey by Data Report of Market Report.
Last month, external PE supplies to Ukraine decreased to 21.1 against 25.1 thousand tons in April, the volume of supplies of all types of ethylene polymers decreased. In general, according to the results of January-May of the current year, the total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached a level of 111.3 thousand tons against 100.3 thousand tons a year earlier. External deliveries of HDPE increased, while for other types of ethylene polymers, imports actually remained at the 2018 level.
The structure of supplies by types of PE for the period under review is as follows.
Last month, imports of low-pressure polyethylene decreased to 8.7 thousand tons against 9.6 thousand tons in April, the reduction in supply fell to pipe polyethylene. In general, according to the results of the first five months of the year, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 42 thousand tons against 31.1 thousand tons a year earlier.
The May indicator of imports of high-density polyethylene (LDPE) amounted to 5.1 thousand tons against 6.9 thousand tons a month earlier. During the period under review, the total volume of LDPE imports reached a level of 31.6 thousand tons, which actually corresponds to the 2018 indicator.
Last month, the external supply of linear polyethylene (LDL) amounted to 6.5 thousand tons against 7.5 thousand tons in April. In general, in January-May this year, the total import of LDL rose to 32.4 thousand tons against 32 thousand tons a year earlier.
Import of other types of PE, including ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), during the period under review amounted to 5.2 thousand tons against 5.7 thousand tons a year earlier.
