Global players want to return to reusable packaging for all products.
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, the American company TerraCycle presented a new technological solution to minimize the amount of garbage in the world. TerraCycle has developed an e-commerce platform Loop. The service allows you to collect packaging from used goods (creams, shampoos, etc.) at the doorstep of consumers’ home, then recycle it and create reusable packaging for products from recycled raw materials that manufacturers can fill with products.

At the same time, customers pay a small deposit for a package designed for 100 or more cycles of use. When the container is empty, customers place it in a specially designed bag for export or, in some cases, can be delivered to the store. If the product does not need to be replenished, the deposit for the container is returned or credited to their account.

Loop returns the old “milkman model” when products are delivered to customers, while empty containers are collected, washed, replenished and replenished for delivery to another customer. The buyer receives the product, but the package belongs to the company.

The service will be launched this spring in two markets: the French Ильle-de-France and New York. Initially, about 300 products will be available in durable, reusable containers, many of which are designed specifically for Loop.

Loop partners include Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Unilever, Mars, Clorox, Coca-Cola, Mondelēz, Danone, and about a dozen small brands.
