Decision adopted on 10 September on the basis of an application of the Ministry of economic development and trade of the need for the abolition of specter concerning import into Ukraine of cars regardless of the country of origin and exports, applied by decision of 28 April 2012.
“By results of consideration of the specified materials and in accordance with the provisions of the treaties on the rules and procedures of WTO dispute settlement, the Commission found that the national interests of Ukraine require the abolition of specter concerning import into Ukraine of cars regardless of the country of origin and export”, – stated in the message.
The Commission decision came into force after publication on September 14 in the governmental newspaper “governmental courier”.
It was noted earlier that in October 2013, disputes arose between Ukraine and Japan due to the introduction of special duties on imported cars. Later, the Japanese government sent a request to the world trade organization (WTO) for consultations with the government of Ukraine concerning the special duties on import. On June 27, the WTO called on Kiev authorities to cancel the special duty on imported cars. According to the Japanese side, Ukraine has not had sufficient grounds for the imposition of special duty. In the European Union also criticized the introduction of special duties on imported cars. According to Europeans, the measures are incompatible with the obligations under the WTO. On June 27, the world trade organization called on Kiev authorities to cancel the special duty on imported cars.
Thus, the expert panel of the WTO upheld a complaint by Japan against Ukraine and called for the repeal of the special duty on imported cars
