Imports of styrene to the European Union decreased in July this year by 17.01% compared to the same month of the previous year – up to 45.88 thousand tons, ICIS reported with reference to the statistical agency Eurostat.
In July, 2016, this indicator was at the level of 55.29 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, exports of styrene monomer from Europe to other world markets fell 44.23% in the reporting period compared to the same period a year ago and amounted to 18.38 thousand tons against 32.95 thousand tons in July 2016.
Styrene is the main raw material component for the production of polystyrene (PS).
According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC, the main trends in the Russian market over the period January-July 2017, affecting the balance of the market, was an increase in imports and even greater export growth while maintaining production at the level of last year. Thus, the import of general-purpose polystyrene (PCS / M) and high-impact polystyrene (UPS / M) increased by 12% to 28 thousand tons. Export shipments for seven months increased by 34% to 46 thousand tons.
