Siam Cement Group (SCG) Plastics, part of the structure of one of the largest in Thailand – SCG, plans in November to stop production at the plant for the production of polyethylene (HDPE) in Map Ta foot (Map Ta Phut, Thailand) for routine repairs, ICIS reported a source in the company.

It is expected that prevention at the enterprise, which mainly produces HDPE pipe grade, will last for about three weeks, the source added.

The source also pointed out that the manufacturer will make the stocks of material for their regular customers, thus, minimizes the impact for them to stop supply of HDPE plant.

It was noted earlier that the SCG intends later this year to begin commercial production of polyethylene (PE) at a new plant in Thailand, as in June, said the president of SCG Chonlanata Yanaranopa (Chonlanat Yanaranop). The new company, whose facilities are not specified, will be releasing a new brand of high-quality PE.

As reported by the MRC, in 1987, Dow signed its first agreement with the SCG Thailand, one of the most renowned industrial conglomerate in Thailand, to establish a joint venture – SCG-DOW Group. In 1993, the joint venture has moved its production facilities in the industrial zone Map Ta Phut, building new factories for the production of styrene-butadiene latex and polyurethane.
