The global market for medical polymers will continue to grow and is expected to reach by 2021 the level of $ 2.9 billion. At the same time, the bulk (about $ 1.7 billion) will come from the segment of implants, where there is a rapid increase in the use of polymeric materials to replace the titanium and other metals. These findings are contained in the report of the American research company N-tech Research.
The said firm issued a report, “The international market of medical polymers, 2016-2025,” in which she introduced the main trends of development and formation of the regulatory framework of the market. As already noted, our analysis suggests that the volume of the said market will be in 2021 $ 2.9 billion.
Research has shown that the polymers are increasingly being used in the market because of the implants that are significantly cheaper metal counterparts, such as titanium.
Increased use of polymeric materials will be observed and in other segments of the healthcare market. Thus, the production of diagnostic systems (by 2021) will consume polymeric materials for $ 1 billion.
As for the polymer, then (as expected) a substantial portion of the proceeds will generate PMMA (about $ 745 million by 2021). PS, PEEK and HDPE, as well as compositions based on 4-listed polymers are most materials consumed in the creation of products and structures for medical purposes. They will account for about 54% of the total number of polymeric materials used in medicine.
In conclusion, N-tech Research shared the assumption that in the near future, the market should expect a prosthetic completely created from biodegradable polymers.
