By the year 2050, Ukraine will begin to import drinking water. This was told by representatives of the public organization “Clean Dnepr”.

CLIMATE. According to experts, the reason why Ukrainians will remain without their own drinking water is climate change. If no action is taken, over the next 20 years the steppe will come close to Kiev.

SECURITY. Environmentalists claim that now only a quarter of the required water reserves is being restored in the country. At the same time, Ukraine has already appeared in the list of countries with a low level of provision of population with water – 1 thousand cubic meters per citizen.

It should be noted that according to the standards of UNESCO, the “low-income” countries include states in which citizens consume less than 1.7 cubic meters of water per year.

DNIEPER. The key problem of the water supply of Ukrainians is the Dnieper. In 2017, almost 2 km of sewage was dumped into the river. Half of these emissions were not cleaned enough or not filtered at all. This was the cause of large-scale flowering of the river and overgrowing of the water area by algae, because of this, the area of ​​the Kiev reservoir decreased by more than 10.7%.
