Import supplies of propylene to the European market in May this year decreased by 33.23% compared to the same month last year – up to 21.12 thousand tons, ICIS reported with reference to the statistical agency Eurostat.
In May of the same year, the import of propylene to Europe was at the level of 31.63 thousand tons.
Also, the export of material from Europe to foreign markets decreased by 29.09% over the reporting period compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 6.27 thousand tons against 8.84 thousand tons in the same month of 2016.
Propylene is one of the main raw materials for the production of polypropylene (PP).
According to DataScope of the MRC Company, in May, Russian companies increased their imports of PP to Russia to 15.4 thousand tons against 10.6 thousand tons in April, the increase in deliveries was due to the PP-homo grade of raffia from the countries of Central Asia and the pipe block copolymer Propylene (PP block) from Europe. In general, in January-May 2017, Russia imported 61.1 thousand tons of propylene polymers against 64.4 thousand tons a year earlier. Supplies of PP homo decreased by one third, while imports of copolymers of propylene, on the contrary, increased.
