Since Friday, September 14, the solid waste landfill # 5 in the village of Podgortsy (near Kiev) has been blocked by unknown persons.

“Since September 14, the landfill of solid household waste No. 5 in the village of Podgortsy has been blocked by unknown persons.What is the purpose of those who do this and what demands does it make, it is not known yet, because the action is not supported by any local community, officially or through the media about it too People are taken and taken out by buses, and the slogans under which the “protesters” stand indicate that the organizers of this event do not understand the real state of affairs both at the landfill itself and in the sphere of waste management in general.

Meanwhile, the blocking of the landfill continues and the situation is about to reach a critical level, since interference in the work of a strategic facility that takes up to 40% of Kiev garbage can lead to serious environmental consequences for the city and surrounding localities.
Now all actions have to be stopped to cover the first map of the landfill, which does not help improve the environmental situation around. The preparation of the landfill for closure was also under threat, namely, work to strengthen protective dams, to process filtrate, etc.

PJSC “Kyivspetstrans” together with KSCA and communities of neighboring villages makes every effort to close landfill # 5. But as soon as the matter shifted from the place and the work began, someone decided to arrange a provocation and aggravate the situation around this issue.
We emphasize that the closure of the test site in the existing form is dangerous, and the decision by the organizers of this action of their own selfish interests at the expense of people’s safety is unacceptable! There is no alternative to the fact that Kiev should stop burial of garbage and get a modern plant for its processing – this is the plant we will build in two years. But the problem must be solved comprehensively and civilized. Without preliminary works to strengthen the landfill and its further reclamation, this place will become an ecological time bomb.
We appeal to the conscious citizens not to support this customized action, since the people who organized the blockade of the landfill are against the interests of the local residents, the people of Kiev, and against the environment in principle. We are always open for communication, we willingly provide any information on the state of affairs at the training ground, and our actions to close it, but are categorically against using this situation to destabilize the situation in the city and in the country.
