In New York, a ban on the sale of disposable plastic bags has come into force. Instead, the stores will offer paper bags. This was reported by Gromadske with reference to The Guardian. The ban will not apply to plastic bags used for food delivery, medicine packaging, garbage bags, raw meat and fish bags.

A few weeks before the ban was in effect, change alerts appeared in stores. A special campaign has been launched in social networks urging people to use their own reusable bags. Over time, local officials want to introduce fines for businesses that do not comply with the bans. For a first violation, they can be fined $ 250, and for repeated violations – $ 500. New York became the third state after California and Oregon, which introduced a ban on the sale of plastic bags. The states of Maine and Vermont also plan to introduce a ban this year, and the states of Connecticut and Delaware – in 2021. Earlier, from January 1, in Thailand in large stores banned disposable plastic bags.
