IMG_4392The initial contract prices for polystyrene (PS) in the European market are agreed on average by EUR90 per tonne higher than the February level for general purpose polystyrene (PSM / M) and EUR100 per tonne for high-impact polystyrene (UPS / M), ICIS reported.

One of the manufacturers said that this month it is necessary to implement this price increase, as last month the margin fell slightly.

Another manufacturer noted that discounts on any additional volumes of material, from the present moment onwards, can be provided.

In general, the demand for the market this month is almost at the level of February or slightly higher, as in March, more working days. However, it is worth noting that there is still no seasonal increase in demand, market sources said.

The buyer said that, despite the fact that the demand is at a good level, all recent price increases can not be accepted quickly.

At the moment, the offer of the UPS / M on the market is slightly higher than the offer of the MSS / M, one of the buyers said.

The drop in spot prices for styrene in Europe and Asia last week led to expectations of a drop in contract prices next month.

Some market players said that this is the beginning of the long expected downward trend in the styrene and polystyrene (PS) market.
