British students from the University of Brighton have built a house, building materials for which almost 90% are made from recycled waste.
The building, which is based almost entirely of garbage was built in the framework of the project Waste Hause (Rus. Garbage House) on the campus of the University of Brighton’s Grand Parade. With the help of the project initiators wanted to demonstrate that, in fact, any waste is a potential raw material for the production of many useful things.
In designing and preparatory work of the team of 253 students led by senior lecturer Duncan Baker-Brown (Duncan Baker-Brown) and director of BBM Architects took about 3 months. And the construction of the garbage at home took approximately 12 months.
For the production of household and construction waste materials used were mainly used. This included a huge amount of plastic tableware and packaging materials, personal hygiene items and furniture, waste most diverse clothes – in short, everything that is present in large numbers on a regular city dump.
Bring interior “junk” at home in the form of a priglyadny students came thanks to several hundreds of defective sheets of plywood. And even as the sealing window frames were used about 500 beushnyh bicycle tires
For the carcass home bases, its load-bearing structures and floors used Recycled wood. For the construction of the walls was a mixture of chalk with the addition of clay waste, thus significantly improve their thermal insulation properties, leaving them at a thickness of 35 centimeters. Interestingly, for internal insulation of rooms used for a long time outdated VHS tape, and for this they took about 4000 pieces (video salons apparently still working in England).
But not without the use of new materials and who have not passed the stage of recycling. So, to increase the energy efficiency of its eco project participants have established five-chamber triple glazing and safety were used only licensed electrical equipment and plumbing fixtures.
Now, despite the fact that “trash” the house is already built, the project itself is not closed. Residence of waste is equipped with multiple sensors and sensors that are installed both indoors and outdoors. Their purpose – to monitor and collect information about the parameters of the house and the technical condition of his designs, which in future will help to make conclusions about the degree of success of this method, and will help to develop new ways to increase the energy efficiency of buildings.
It is also planned that the Waste Hause will be a place for regular environmental conference, serve the exhibition hall, the venue for trips and presentations. Its creators hope that the first instance of “junk” at home will become a starting point for the development of new “green” construction and development of a sustainable society as a whole.
