Gribovichsky training ground in the village of Bolshoi Gribovichi near Lviv will soon reappear – after a tragedy that claimed the lives of four people, they plan to make a recreation park for city guests and local residents.

– Imagine, soon the Gribovichsky training ground will become an ecopark for recreation, – Lviv Mayor Andrei Sadovy shared his joy on his page. – Four years – and at the site of the landfill we will get a completely new cool space. We must now think what we will do there. Maybe golf?

The Lviv residents accepted the idea of golf with a bang – it is clear that the region is not the poorest, since they thought that they would find funds for this entertainment for the rich. Although the part is on the old: “First build a waste recycling plant!” Some offer to open a zoo or just an ecopark and put birds there, a nature reserve or an open-air entertainment center similar to American ones.

You will have to wait several years before the implementation of these ideas – the landfill still needs to be reclaimed. Today it is a place in which you can lose consciousness in minutes from the smell and poisonous fumes.

The huge landfill, spread over almost 40 hectares in the nearby suburbs, has long worried the locals – because of the poisoning of harmful substances and air, the stinks are sure, the residents are sure that their villagers die much earlier than people living in the same Lviv. Therefore, after the collapse of the landfill, the villagers crossed themselves – at the cost of human lives, but the landfill was finally closed, they promised to reclaim the landfill … In a good way, it should have been closed for a long time, to find a new site, but as they say, until the thunder strikes, the man will not cross.

So far, things have not gone further than promises – over the past three years they have not done anything. Preparatory work has just begun – according to the observations of local residents, for about a month, the waste that has collapsed in 2016 has been collected and taken back to the garbage mountain, which crawled during the collapse, and strengthen the landfill and dam.

“For the first time I hear this from you, I don’t have such information at all,” the rural head of the Bolshoi Gribovichi Igor Pytel was surprised at our message about the mayor’s plans. – Rest zone? Golf courses? I have not heard. I don’t think that it will be possible to walk with small children right there – there is biogas, first you need to make biogas selection systems. Let them do the restoration, and then we’ll think about it … I didn’t see the project until the end, but there it was planned to plant a maximum of bushes and trees that could grow under such conditions.

Landfill reclamation itself will take another two to three years. After that, the village council suggests that they give the land to them, since it will lose its meaning for the city council. What to do with it is a big question, since it is unlikely that this land will be suitable for ordinary agricultural work – little can grow on poisonous soil, animals, except for vultures and stray dogs, try to avoid this area.

The body of 61-year-old environmental engineer Alexander Butin, who had just left the landfill at the time when the collapse occurred and was covered with garbage, was not found 3.5 years after the tragedy. Perhaps the body will be found now, when they started to turn over the garbage again – if at least something is left.

Well, Andrei Sadovyi is reporting on success so far – four powerful European companies have expressed their desire to help make the landfill safe and modern. The contract with the winner will be signed before the end of the year.
