3 per cent of household waste is completely recycled in Germany.
Despite all taken by the German government’s efforts to garbage disposal and reduce its number of Germans produce significantly more waste than people in most other EU countries. while the country – the leader in terms of the volume of recycling.
On average, every citizen of the country annually emits 611 kg of waste, corresponding to 1.7 kg per day. The average EU figure is 492 kg. Even more garbage produced only residents of Luxembourg (662 kg per year), Cyprus (663) and Denmark (668). On the last places – Estonia (279) and Latvia (301).
But Germany was in first place in the EU in terms of the volume of recycling of this substance. Overall, 65 percent of waste in Germany unable to recycle or convert to compost, and only 35 percent of garbage burned. The average for the EU of processed waste – 42 percent.
Last year, Germany began a massive campaign to reduce use of plastic bags. Germans love to plastic bags. Once in the GDR, they were considered a symbol and an indicator of well-being. Today, plastic bags have become almost a curse to our ecology.
The Germans, like all the other inhabitants of the planet, using them a couple of times and then thrown away, filling the garbage. Author of this article is no exception. Once Germany goes for paper garbage bags, which have yet to buy. Frankly, as I and everyone else, such a prospect is not satisfied. Because once again to pay out of pocket. On the other hand – the earth we all have one. And, globally thinking, I want to protect her.
Life expectancy of the plastic bag is an average of 25 minutes, then it goes in the trash. Such is the fate of the majority of plastic bags. The German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) has estimated that one trillion packets of plastic are used each year in the world. And only a tenth part of them is recycled.
Only in 2010 in Europe, according to DUH, it was produced 750 thousand tons of disposable plastic bags. This corresponds to a weight of 625 000 cars are. The worst thing is that during the decomposition of plastic is several hundred years – for comparison, the paper ticket on the bus is decomposed in a few weeks. Even tin need less time – according to the International Maritime Organization, tin objects completely decompose in about 100 years.
But the Germans – the people responsible. If they decide that you will certainly do it. We decided to get rid of plastic – began to get rid of it. We decided to recycle the garbage almost one hundred per cent – will be done.
Especially because the processing of waste – a very profitable venture. The total turnover of all the companies involved in the country’s garbage collection is about fifty billion euros per year. According to specialists, in about five years, so-called “green economy” will play on the German market a more important role than the automotive industry.
In 1995, the share of recyclable materials in consumable materials German industry was only 2-3 per cent. In 2011 it increased already to 13 percent. You understand that the growth prospects present is not so difficult.
Already in Germany in one form or another recycle 63 per cent of net household waste. The increase in this share will undoubtedly contribute to the prescribed new law improved, more rigorous and more precise system of separation of garbage. The Act introduced throughout Germany in 2015.
This means that the inhabitants of the country since last year are obliged to distribute their household waste into organic waste (biomass), waste paper, glass, metals and plastics. And some garbage containers will be installed for all of this. Although correct to call them containers for recycling.
I can say that this law is valid not only on paper. Earlier this year, in front of the house where I live, there were two new container – for plastic and metal.
Many argue that the “profession scavenger” will be in the near future, the most demanded. The population of the world grows, people produce more waste, and recycling it – very promising industry.
In Germany, by the way, there is an Institute for
studying the problems of waste disposal and remediation of contaminated areas. It was opened at the Technical University of Dresden in 1995. This school in the town of Pirna offers a master’s degree in the specialty of the same name for people interested in technological progress and is not indifferent to the environment. Its graduates can work all over the world.
It is in order to attract foreign students, the institute opened a master’s program. Today, young people are studying here from Europe, America and Asia. But students from Russia or Kazakhstan – is a rarity. Although the problem of recycling waste are relevant for these countries no less than Germany, believe the university. And experts with knowledge of Russian and German languages in this area precisely a great opportunity.
And a couple of words about waste recycling. To this case can be approached creatively. Not so long ago I was at a trade fair, which saw a completely unique things made furniture restorer Manfred Vayhertom. For example, wood residues and air containers he constructs designer chairs and tables. From punctured bicycle camera – bags and belts. From metal residues, wood and newspapers – chair.
Apsaykling – is the name of this very popular new trend in Germany: waste and garbage are transformed into beautiful garments and items. It is possible that it will soon start to train seriously in major German universities.
