Since January 1, 2018, all Ukrainians will have to sort the garbage by types in accordance with the norm of the storage facility “On Waste”. The government is threatened with heavy fines for breaking the law. InfoResist decided to tell you why you need to sort the garbage and how to do it.
Sorting garbage has long existed abroad: on the streets are installed special containers with compartments for plastic, paper, food and toxic waste. And conscious citizens establish such adaptations and at home.
Sorting of garbage: what is happening in Ukraine
To date, the seventh part of Ukraine is littered with garbage. Every day every inhabitant of the country emits at least 1 kg of waste. According to official data, only 43,000 square km of waste are located in registered landfills.
Why sort garbage
In many countries of the world, trash sorting is practiced. That is, it is the actions for sorting and collecting garbage depending on its origin. This is done to avoid environmental pollution.
In the middle of the twentieth century, in the entire civilized world, the risk that the world could get bogged down in garbage was realized. Therefore, humanity began to sort out the garbage and recycle waste.
Sorting of garbage: the risk of waste
Batteries
The main danger of batteries consists in their composition: accumulators contain heavy metals and radioactive elements. When they get into the soil, such substances infect it, and therefore the land in such places can not be used in any way.
Light Bulbs
The bulbs contain toxic mercury vapor. Therefore, if damaged, harmful substances can clog the environment. Also poisonous fumes accumulate in human tissues. For example, frequent inhalation of mercury vapor can lead to cancer.
Plastic
The danger of this material is a long-term decomposition – from 180 years. And since plastic enjoys great popularity in almost all spheres of human life due to its cheapness and availability, an ecological catastrophe can soon begin on the planet. So, only in Kiev Ukrainians daily throw out about 1 million packages.
Separate collection of waste involves the separation of all waste – waste paper, glass, plastic, food waste,
To do this, you need to start a few garbage cans and throw it there. For starters, you can only separate food waste and all recyclable (for example, plastic, paper and glass). There is a practice where a separate container is used for each type of waste.
Resource-valuable waste, that is, those that can be recycled. These include:
plastic;
metal;
paper;
the glass and the like.
How to sort garbage
First of all, you need to choose a place for sorting garbage. Instead of special containers, simple cardboard boxes or bags can be used. In addition, in shops you can find special sorting boxes with lids.
For added convenience, the containers can be placed under chairs or a table, and if the apartment has a loggia or a storage room, then the place for sorting the recyclables can be placed there. So, for example, if you put a large cardboard box on the balcony, it will allow you to remove garbage not more than once in 4 months.
Develop a habit of washing garbage
Before putting the garbage in a container, it needs to be washed. This is a mandatory procedure, since the leftovers of food on the material will begin to rot, and hence an unpleasant smell will appear in the room.
Press waste
Any secondary raw materials need to be compressed. So you will save space in the container, and consequently you will rarely need to take out the garbage. Aluminum cans are easily pressed, cardboard packages are folded, recycled paper can be tied with a rope, glass containers can be folded one into the other.

What can I take for recycling?
For recycling, you can take: office paper, cardboard without plastic coating, cardboard packages and boxes, advertising brochures.
At the same time, before passing the paper, you need to separate the paper clips and ropes, then gently tamper. It is important not to tear the raw materials in part, as this reduces its quality.
Do not accept for recycling:
substrates for eggs;
shop checks;
rolls from under the toilet paper;
toilet paper;
napkins that were used; – cigarette packs;
Photo;
diapers;
used packaging paper, for example, from meat.
Most of these materials are already made from recycled raw materials. They quickly decompose in the soil and do not do any harm.
Glass
You can hand over for recycling:
glass bottles for drinks or medicines;
banks of glass.
For processing, you can bring any glass vessel, if it previously had no oil. Bottles with oil are very difficult to completely wash off the fat. Also, ceramics will not be recycled for processing.
Plastic
In the item recyclables the following plastic products are accepted:
bottles from dairy products, water, sauces, on which there is a marking 1;
jars containing dairy products, for example, sour cream with numbers 2 and 6;
bottles for cleaning products, marked 1,2;
plastic containers with marking 6.
What can not be taken:
containers containing oil;
packing from razors and toothbrushes;
Styrofoam;
brushes for cleaning teeth, as well as plastic tubules;
Plastic packaging in which there were chocolate, pasta, cereals;
polyethylene and cellophane bags;
utensils for single use.
A variety of packaging is usually indicated on the bottom of the package.
Metal
You can send for recycling:
cans of aluminum;
cans;
covers made of iron;
Tin cans, for example, from under the tea.
You can not hand over to processing:
aerosol cans;
used foil.
