The Cabinet of Ministers decided to liquidate the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine, instead of which the State Environmental Service will be created. According to the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the corresponding decision was made at a government meeting. “The reform of this structure is long overdue, but it is not as simple as it seems at first glance. After all, it is important not only to change the name, but first of all to attract people who really care for the environment and provide them with the necessary material and technical equipment so that people have the opportunity to properly and fully fulfill their duties, and not fight with moratoriums on business checks, ”the press service of the Minister of Ecology Ostap Semerak quotes. The Minister also noted that in 2017, the government approved the Concept of reforming the system of state supervision (control) in the field of environmental protection developed by the Ministry of Ecology. In 2018, a bill on the State Environmental Service was developed and submitted to parliament, but it has not yet been considered.
The structure of the new State Environmental Service envisages the creation of 10 inter-regional territorial bodies (Carpathian, Polessky, Dnieper, Northwest, Capital, Black Sea, Podolsky, Central and Southeast) and the complete elimination of 23 territorial units of the State Environmental Inspectorate. As UNIAN reported, at the end of May 2017, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the concept of reforming the state control system in the field of environmental protection, which provides for the liquidation of the State Environmental Inspectorate and the creation of a new body – the State Environmental Protection Service of Ukraine. In June 2016, Semerak said that one of the priorities of the Ministry of Ecology is the creation of a new integrated environmental inspection, which will combine all the controlling functions of the ministry and other departments, until the end of 2016
