European Commissioner for the Environment Virginijus Sinkevi\u010dius said: \u201cThese new rules make it clear that the EU takes seriously the responsibility we take for the waste we generate. This is an important step in the fight against environmental pollution from plastic waste, in the transition to a circular economy. and towards achieving the goals set out in the Green Pact for Europe.<\/p>\n

Every year in Europe, 25 million tons of plastic waste is produced and only a third is sent for recycling. 85 percent of beach trash around the world is plastic.<\/p>\n
