Even specialists can not always determine the appearance of any plastic product.

The granulate is used to manufacture new plastic products. Rarely – in its pure form, often – as an additive to the primary raw material to reduce the cost of products, where appropriate.

The advantages of “secondary”

The use of recycled plastics has many advantages over the feedstock:

economic benefit – less financial resources are spent on manufacturing, which significantly affects the final cost of the product;
environmental protection – the raw material for production is in fact garbage;
simplicity of technology – there is no need for complex technological processes and equipment.
In terms of physical and chemical parameters, the secondary granules are practically the same as the primary granules. Using a variety of additives and additives, these characteristics can be improved.

Secondary granules are given:

dimensions;
Colour;
transparency.

Depending on the type of polymer used for their production, the further purpose of the material is determined. The quality of granules largely depends on the degree of purification of polymer raw materials from impurities.

There are also some points to use:

bulk granules take up little space;
they have a constant volume and weight, as they do not absorb water;
not deformed – resistant to mechanical stress;
resistant to temperature extremes;
they are easy to store and transport;
wide range of products.

Replacing the expensive primary raw materials with success, the secondary material radically solves the environmental problem of plastic waste. The benefit of such processing lies in other aspects:

the organization of landfills for the disposal of polymer waste is not required;
no need to build plastic incineration plants;
reduced consumption of minerals used for the production of primary polymers.

Recycling plastic waste is becoming an increasingly profitable business.

Types of secondary granules

The type of granules, as well as their properties and purpose, depend on what kind of plastic was recycled.

Most of these products accounted for:

HDPE HDPE – low pressure polyethylene;
LDPE high pressure polyethylene;
PET PET – polyethylene terephthalate;
PP polypropylene;
PVC PVC – polyvinyl chloride.

But other types of “secondary housing” are also becoming more and more popular:

Stretch LLDPE;
ABS plastic;
polystyrene PS;
polycarbonate.

Each material has its own characteristics.

HDPE – Low Pressure Polyethylene
Illiquid assets and waste polyethylene of low pressure are used for production. They have a high density.

For this reason, the cost of processing them is somewhat higher than for other plastics.

LDPE
Processing high-pressure polyethylene gives it special qualities:

elasticity – it has good elasticity and elasticity, which is great for the production of films for various purposes;
is odorless and does not emit toxins;
good frost resistance of LDPE products;
does not conduct electric current;
has water and gas impermeability;
retains heat well;
has excellent transparency;
resistant to chemical attack.

Secondary LDPE is fairly easy to process.

PAT
PET waste is the easiest to process.

Secondary granules can be added to the primary raw materials, or alloyed with other types of plastic.

Polypropylene

The raw material for the production of “secondary” are the film, as well as waste and scrap production of polypropylene containers and packaging.

Secondary material has:

resistance to high temperatures;
mechanical strength;
electrical insulation and water resistance;
resistance to chemical attack, acids and alcohols.
But propylene does not have frost resistance. Special components help to eliminate this moment.

Polypropylene granules mainly go for further processing by injection molding.

Streych

Stretch granules are mainly used for the production of packaging film, which has:

good flexibility and tensile properties;
perfect fixation;
transparency;
airtightness

The material is non-toxic, odorless. Streych possesses good resistance to chemicals.

Polystyrene

The main technical parameters of polystyrene include:

The optimal combination of flexibility and stiffness of the material.
Good strength and resistance to mechanical stress.
Inertness to chemicals.
Good scattering performance.
The material does not conduct electrical current.

It is an environmentally friendly product. Both foamed and monolithic polystyrene can serve as raw materials for processing.

A large amount of plastic waste creates a serious environmental threat.
