The decrease in demand for homopolymers of propylene (PP-homo) was compensated by the growth in demand for copolymers of propylene, according to the DataScope.

In March, the volume of polypropylene imports to Ukraine rose to 9.7 thousand tons against 8.9 thousand tons a month earlier, demand for copolymers of propylene increased. In general, in January-March, the total volume of imports of propylene polymers reached the level of 28.4 thousand tons, which corresponds to the indicator a year earlier. The demand for copolymers of propylene only increased, with the largest increase in the stat-copolymer of propylene (PP-Random).

The structure of supplies by types of polypropylene during the period under review is as follows.

In March, external deliveries of homopolymers of propylene to the Ukrainian market decreased to 6.2 thousand tons against 6.5 thousand tons a month earlier. The main reduction in shipments came from the PP-homo grade of raffia from Saudi Arabia. For the first three months, the total supply of PP homo reached 20.2 thousand tons, which is 9% less than a year earlier.

Last month, the external supplies of propylene block copolymers (PP blocks) amounted to 1.3 thousand tons against less than 1 thousand tons a month earlier. On the part of local companies, the demand for casting copolymers of propylene increased. During the period under review, about 3.3 thousand tons of block copolymers of propylene were imported, while a year ago this figure was slightly more than 2.9 thousand tons.

In March, the import of propylene copolymers approached the level of 2 thousand tons against 1.2 thousand tons a month earlier, the demand for PP on the part of producers of pipes and injection molded products has grown. According to the results of January – March of this year, the total import of PP-Random reached the level of 4,4 thousand tons, whereas a year earlier this figure was about 2,800 tons.

The total volume of supplies of other copolymers of propylene during the period under review was about 580 tons.

According to the results of the first three months of this year, the total volume of imports of polypropylene to the Ukrainian market amounted to 28.4 thousand tons, which corresponds to the same indicator in 2017.
