\"\"August contract prices for styrene monomer in Europe were agreed at the level of EUR1,170 per tonne, which is EUR30 per tonne lower than the July level, several buyers and sellers on the market told ICIS on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The contract price was agreed on the terms of delivery of FOB Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA).<\/p>\n

One producer and one buyer on the market did not agree with the above price level and decided not to follow it.<\/p>\n

This week, quotations on the spot market of styrene went up after receiving news of a fire at the Shell refinery in Rotterdam (Netherlands) last weekend.<\/p>\n

“We expect the resumption of production earlier in the second half of August,” Shell spokesman said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Despite these supply constraints and other restrictions on the supply of material that appeared last week, import volumes continue to arrive in Europe, and by the middle of August 20,000 tons are expected to arrive, which will improve the availability of styrene in the market.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, players are following the developments on the spot market, as the upward price trend remains, the material on August 2 was trading at USD1,350 per ton.<\/p>\n

Earlier it was noted that the July contract prices for styrene in Europe were agreed at EUR1,200 per tonne FOB ARA, which is EUR27.5 per ton higher than June.<\/p>\n

Styrene is the main raw material component for the production of polystyrene (PS).<\/p>\n

According to the Price Review of ICIS-MRC, in August the Russian market expects a general increase in prices for the Russian substation. This month Nizhnekamskneftekhim will increase its selling prices by 4 thousand rubles per ton. Manufacturer Penoplex increased the cost of polystyrene for general use (PSS \/ M) by 2 thousand rubles.
