Trade data published by Eurostat (Brussels) for all 28 EU countries for the first quarter of 2015, shows that imports in the region amounted to 50,000 tons is a big jump from 30,000 tons recorded in the 1st quarter in 2013. However, compared with imports of polystyrene in the first quarter of 2014, which is 5% less.<\/p>\n

Exports from Egypt has been growing steadily, skirting South Korea, and subsequently becoming the main source of imports of polystyrene in the EU region. Delivery from South Korea decreased by 5% in April, and from Egypt increased by 6% compared to April 2014, according to data from IHS Chemical.<\/p>\n

European prices for polystyrene seriously went up in this period as a result of the protracted problems with the supply of styrene. For the first four months of this year, many plants have been numerous halting production\u2014 both planned and unplanned, resulting in the production of styrene decreased significantly. March and April were two difficult months, when more than 20% of its regional facilities were offline. As a result the prices of polystyrene increased by 40-45% during March and April, and Europe has become a favorable destination for importers.<\/p>\n
