The demand for high-density polyethylene (LDPE) and low-density polyethylene (HDPE) has decreased, according to a report by the DataScope company of the MRC.<\/p>\n<p>In April, external supplies of PE to Ukraine continued their decline and dropped to 17.5 thousand tons against 19.5 thousand tons a month earlier. Local companies have reduced purchases of HDPE due to low demand for finished products in the domestic market. In general, in January-April, the total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached 76.8 thousand tons against 87.5 thousand tons in the same period in 2016, only linear polyethylene (LLDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) increased.<\/p>\n<p>The structure of supplies by types of PE for the period under review is as follows.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, there was a decrease in imports of low-pressure polyethylene to the Ukrainian market, an excessive supply of polymer in the market and a low demand for finished products forced local companies to reduce the volume of purchases in foreign markets. The final figure was 7.7 thousand tons against 9 thousand tons in March. In general, for the first four months, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 31.8 thousand tons against 43.5 thousand tons a year earlier, supplies of film and injection PE decreased by almost a third, the demand for polyethylene in the pipe extrusion segment decreased by 20% .<\/p>\n<p>The April high-pressure polyethylene import indicator fell to 4.1 thousand tons against 4.5 thousand tons a month earlier, the main reason for the reduction in supplies was a serious cut in export quotas by Russian and European producers. During the period under review, the total volume of imports of LDPE exceeded 20,400 tons, which is 10% less than the same indicator in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, external deliveries of linear polyethylene amounted to 4.3 thousand tons against 4.1 thousand tons in March, a small increase in demand showed the producers of film products. In general, in January-April, imports of LDL increased to 19.2 thousand tons against 18.4 thousand tons a year earlier.
