Ukrainian imports of polyethylene grew by 10% in the first quarter
According to the results of the first three months of the year, the total volume of imports of polyethylene (PE) to the Ukrainian market grew by 10% compared to the same indicator of 2018 and amounted to 65.1 thousand tons. An increase in external supplies was recorded for virtually all types of ethylene polymers. Last month, external supplies of PE to Ukraine increased to 23.2 against 20.8 thousand tons in February, the volume of supplies of low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE) increased. In general, in January-March this year, the total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached 65.1 thousand tons against 59.1 thousand tons a year earlier. The external supply of all types of ethylene polymers increased, the largest increase in imports fell on the HDPE.
The structure of supplies by types of PE for the period under review is as follows.
Last month, the import of HDPE rose to 10.3 thousand tons against 6.5 thousand tons in February, the increase in deliveries fell on pipe and film polyethylene, including due to forced downtime in January-February of the local producer. In general, in the first three months of the year, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 23.9 thousand tons against 19.1 thousand tons a year earlier.
March indicator of imports of high-density polyethylene (LDPE) amounted to 6.6 thousand tons, which is comparable with the figure a month earlier. During the period under review, the total volume of LDPE imports reached a level of 19.4 thousand tons, which corresponds to the figure for 2018.
Last month, the external supply of linear polyethylene (LDL) amounted to 5.2 thousand tons against 6.6 thousand tons in February. In general, in January-March this year, the total import of LDL rose to 18.3 thousand tons against 17.3 thousand tons a year earlier.
Import of other types of PE, including ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) for the period under review, amounted to 3.4 thousand tons against 3.3 thousand tons a year earlier.
