According to the results of the first five months of the year, the total volume of imports of polyethylene to Ukraine decreased by 6% compared to the same period of 2016 and amounted to 100.6 thousand tons. The demand for high-density polyethylene (LDPE) and low-density polyethylene (HDPE) has decreased.
In May, external deliveries of polyethylene to Ukraine increased to 23.8 thousand tons against 17.5 thousand tons a month earlier. Local companies have significantly increased the volume of purchases of film HDPE and linear polyethylene (LLDPE). In general, in January-May, the total volume of external supplies of polyethylene reached the level of 100.6 thousand tons against 106.7 thousand tons in the same period in 2016, only LDL and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) increased.
The structure of supplies by types of polyethylene over the period under review is as follows.
Last month there was a serious increase in imports of low-pressure polyethylene – 11.1 thousand tons against 7.7 thousand tons in April, local companies doubled the volume of purchases of film polyethylene. In general, for the first five months, the total volume of imports of HDPE reached 42.9 thousand tons against 52.2 thousand tons a year earlier, supplies of film HDPE decreased almost by a quarter, demand for injection molded and tubular polyethylenes decreased by 18%.
The May indicator of high-pressure polyethylene imports rose to 5,000 tons against 4,1 thousand tons a month earlier, the increase in deliveries fell on Russian polyethylene. During the period under review, the total volume of imports of LDPE reached the level of 25.4 thousand tons, which is 3% less than the same indicator in 2016.
Last month, external deliveries of linear polyethylene amounted to about 6.3 thousand tons against 4.3 thousand tons in April, the increase in demand was shown by film manufacturers. In general, in January-May imports of LDL increased to 25.5 thousand tons against 23.9 thousand tons a year earlier. The main increase in demand was provided by manufacturers of film products and cable-conductor products.
Import of other types of polyethylene, including EVA, for the period under review amounted to about 6.9 thousand tons against 4.3 thousand tons a year earlier.
