Ukraine has joined the “APENA 2” project, within the framework of which it will introduce the main norms of European legislation on the protection of atmospheric air and waste management. This is reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the State Environmental Inspection.
“Protection of atmospheric air and waste management in Ukraine will be carried out according to European standards. The State Environmental Inspectorate has joined the participation in the EU project” APENA 2 “(” Support to Ukraine in the approximation of EU legislation in the field of the environment “),” – said the head of the State Environmental Inspection Andriy Malevanny.
He noted that this long-term program provides for the cooperation of the SEI with international experts on the preparation of legislative and regulatory changes in accordance with EU requirements.
“Over the course of 3 years of the APENA 2 project implementation, the inspection specialists will be able to receive advice on the creation of draft laws, regulations and orders, participate in project activities and improve their knowledge of European legislation,” Malevany added.
It is indicated that in addition to the implementation of European legislative requirements, the State Environmental Inspection will also join the development of an integrated information system for waste management, and SEI employees will be able to improve their qualifications in terms of European environmental standards through training.
According to the head of the State Environmental Inspection, the cooperation work plan provides for:
▪️ consultations for SEI on the implementation of EU air quality directives and EU legislation on landfill and disposal of waste from extractive industries;
▪️ participation in the development and implementation of an integrated information system for waste management, where information on licenses issued for carrying out activities in the field of waste management, disposal of landfills and landfills, data on pollutants and processing facilities will be publicly available;
▪️ Specialists undergo trainings on compliance with EU environmental standards.
