According to the results of last year, the total volume of polyethylene imports to the Ukrainian market grew by 10% compared to the indicator of 2018 and amounted to 268.7 thousand tons. The largest increase in external supplies came from low-pressure polyethylene (HDPE)
Last month, external deliveries of polyethylene to Ukraine fell to 20.3 against 24.3 thousand tons in November, and the supply volumes for all types of ethylene polymers decreased. In general, for the whole of 2019, the total external supply of polyethylene reached the level of 268.7 thousand tons against 244.4 thousand tons a year earlier. The highest supply of HDPE increased most significantly, while imports of ethylene copolymers declined.
The supply structure by type of polyethylene for the period under review is as follows.
Last month, the import of low-pressure polyethylene decreased to 7.4 thousand tons against 8.2 thousand tons in November. Ukrainian companies have reduced the volume of purchases of blown and film polyethylene. In general, according to the results of last year, the total volume of HDPE imports exceeded 95 thousand tons against 79.3 thousand tons a year earlier, the volumes of external deliveries in all consumption segments increased.
The December indicator of imports of high pressure polyethylene (LDPE) amounted to about 5.8 thousand tons compared to 7.8 thousand tons a month earlier. During the period under review, the total volume of LDPE imports reached the level of 79.7 thousand tons, which is 5% more than in 2018.
Last month, external deliveries of linear polyethylene (LDL) amounted to about 6 thousand tons against 7.4 thousand tons in November. In general, by the end of 2019, total LDL imports increased to 81.5 thousand tons compared to 73.7 thousand tons a year earlier.
Import of other types of polyethylene, including ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) for the period under review amounted to about 12.5 thousand tons against 15.1 thousand tons a year earlier.
