According to the results of ten months of this year, the total volume of imports of polypropylene (PP) on the Ukrainian market amounted to 112.3 thousand tons, which is only 1% more than in 2018. The increase in supplies fell mainly on propylene block copolymers (PP block)
In October, the volume of PP imports to Ukraine fell to 10.8 thousand tons against 11.4 thousand tons a month earlier, local companies reduced the volume of purchases of propylene homopolymers (PP-homo) in the Middle East. In general, in January – October 2019, the total volume of imports of propylene polymers reached the level of 112.3 thousand tons against 111.2 thousand tons a year earlier. The main increase in imports came from the PP-block, then the demand for PP-homo also slightly increased.
The supply structure by type of PP for the period under review is as follows.
In October, foreign supplies of propylene homopolymers to the Ukrainian market decreased due to reduced purchases in the Middle East and amounted to 7.7 thousand tons against 8.6 thousand tons a month earlier. Over ten months, the total supply of PP-homo reached 85.5 thousand tons against 84.3 thousand tons a year earlier.
Last month, the indicator of external deliveries of propylene block copolymers amounted to 1.5 thousand tons, which is actually equal to September. During the period under review, 12.1 thousand tons of PP-block were imported, whereas a year earlier this figure was 11.1 thousand tons.
In October, the import of stat propylene copolymers (PP-random) grew to 1.4 thousand tons against 1.1 thousand tons a month due to an increase in demand for pipe polypropylene. According to the results of January – October, the total volume of PP-random imports reached 13.2 thousand tons, while a year earlier this figure was 13.9 thousand tons.
The total supply of other propylene copolymers for the period under review amounted to 2.1 thousand tons compared to 2 thousand tons a year earlier.
