Tomskneftekhim (TNKhK), a subsidiary of SIBUR and one of the largest Russian producers of polymers – polypropylene (PP) and high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE), temporarily stopped the issuance of ethylene and propylene in the production of monomers, a spokesman for the company said in Tomsk.

“The production of ethylene and propylene monomers was stopped at 18:00 on 18 June at 6:00 pm The reason for this is probably due to the stop of the compressor, after eliminating the reasons, the monomer production will go to normal operation mode,” the company representative said.

She noted that at the moment torch burning is observed on the flare unit, which is stipulated by technological regulations and permits.

“During the work of the flare plant, soot, carbon dioxide and water are formed, there are no excesses of harmful substances.There are also reasons for panic attacks among Tomsk citizens,” added our interlocutor.

According to a survey by ScanPlast of the company MRC, Tomskneftekhim in May produced 12.6 thousand tons of propylene polymers, which corresponds to the April index. For the first five months of this year, the production of PP at the Tomsk enterprise exceeded the level of 61.6 thousand tons against 58.9 thousand tons a year earlier.
The output of LDPE at the enterprise for five months of this year amounted to 114.636 thousand tons, which is 5% more than the same period a year earlier.

OOO Tomskneftekhim is a subsidiary of Sibur and one of the largest Russian producers of polymers – polypropylene and high-pressure polyethylene (LDPE). Now the annual capacity for the production of high-pressure polyethylene is 270 thousand tons, for the production of polypropylene – 140 thousand tons.
