About 36 billion tons of waste have been accumulated in Ukraine. This was during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ostap Semerak said, the correspondent of UNN.

“In Ukraine, the volumes of waste generation are increasing, the areas of unauthorized landfills are spreading. The greatest burden on the environment is exercised by the chemical, coal mining, metallurgical industries, infrastructure, agriculture, “he noted.

According to the Minister, these sectors of the economy are implementing technologies of processing and recycling waste very slowly.
“Annually in Ukraine, about 10 tons of waste per one resident of the country, against 5 tons, as in the countries of the European Union. The percentage of waste utilization and neutralization is practically zero: in Ukraine, about 36 billion tons of waste have accumulated – more than 50,000 tons per 1 square kilometer of our state, “the minister said.

According to him, in Ukraine, recycling is only 30% of industrial and 4% of household waste.

Recall that in Europe there is a deposit (collateral) system for collecting tare. In Norway, thanks to this system, 95% of containers are collected, in Finland – 93.3%, and in Denmark – 89%. By 2020, Belarus plans to introduce such a system.

In Ukraine, such a system is only being talked about. And although the relevant bill has already been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, which introduces the system without spending the state budget, the people’s deputies are in no hurry to consider it.

The principle of the depository system of collecting tare is that when you deliver the container to a special machine, it returns some of the money paid when buying the drink. The more bottles are surrendered – the more tare can be reused or recycled. This, in turn, reduces the amount of debris that settles in the oceans and landfills
